Asthenosphere

The asthenosphere being like a liquid allows the tectonic plates that make up the lithosphere to move around very slowly though the asthenosphere. The asthenosphere is the bottom of the mantle, and is made of a plastic-like liquid. Though the asthenosphere is solid it could be melted, it depends on the temperature. In addition to loss of pressure to the asthenosphere, temperature is another reason that the asthenosphere can be liquified. The asthenosphere is heated with scorching lements that create the layer (outer core) beneath it. When pressure squeeze on the asthenosphere it can be allowed to depart, thats when two plates are separating from each other. Don't forget the pressure can melt the asthenosphere and flow upward as magma.  If the two overlying plates have actually separated the asthenosphere can flow  outward through cracks in the lithosphere called volcanos. The flow of asthenosphere, now called lava, can form a new section of lithosphere.
